Interview with Bob Fingerman on SG

May 27, 2009

I have thought and continue to think that Bob Fingerman is a funny and talented cartoonist and novelist. His new comic “From the Ashes” is hilarious and bizarre, a buddy comedy of him and his wife surviving the apocalypse. He’s also a great guy to talk with.

Interview with Will Murray

May 19, 2009

I’ve been a fan of Journalist/Fiction writer/Pulp Historian Will Murray for years. I used to read his articles in Starlog magazine, I discovered Doc Savage through the novels he wrote under the pen name Kenneth Robeson in the nineties.  He’s involved in the current reprints of Doc Savage and the Shadow from Sanctum Press which is starting two new reprint series, The Avenger and The Whisperer. I was thrilled to meet him at the New York Comic Con earlier this year and that we found the opportunity to talk. There aren’t a lot of interviews with the man.

I’m looking forward to reading his forward to the Marvel Comics Omnibus which comes out this fall for the publisher’s 70th Anniversary of when the pulp publisher Timely began to publish comic books. And I can only hope that he finds a publisher for his book on the History of Western Pulps.

Mark Schultz Interview on CBR

May 8, 2009

I recently conducted a lengthy interview with Mark Schultz, who for years has been one of my favorite illustrators and cartoonists. I firmly believe that his completed comic “Xenozoic Tales” will be read for decades to come and regarded as one of the medium’s highlights. There’s good reason why a man with a relatively thin resume has won so many awards and so much acclaim. He’s also an unbelievably nice guy.

David Malki ! Interview on CBR

May 6, 2009

An interview with the great cartoonist and writer David Malki ! (No, that’s not a typo, he likes to use an exclamation mark as an honorific). Even in an interview his wit is just as dry and entertaining as his work.

Jason Aaron interview on SG

May 1, 2009

I talked with comics writer Jason Aaron about the new Wolverine comic he’s writing in addition to discussing his brilliant crime comic Scalped and his cousin, the late novelist Gustav Hasford.

He also reveals that The Thing is one of his favorite comicbook characters.

Who knew?

Steve Lopez Interview on Mediabistro

May 1, 2009

I had the opportunity to interview Steve Lopez, one of my favorite columnists and the best reason to read the Los Angeles Times. We talked about the movie “The Soloist” which really captured a lot of what made his columns and his book so powerful and moving, but tweaked it to make it more commercial (though less than many “true stories” Hollywood has amde over the years). I can’t help but feel it would have been a much more powerful and moving film if they hadn’t made those changes, though.
